Why Biographies?

All users are required to maintain biographies on their userpages. Why? Because we are taking real-world responsibility for our contributions and making real-world relationships with each other. A name by itself conveys little information to others. The purpose of user pages is to be helpful to the development of Locksmith Wiki Knowledge Base. Therefore, authors' user pages will be regulated by the Administrators.

What Goes in a Biography?

Users are required to provide only a statement about their credentials and experience, preferably a few hundred words, and not fewer than 50. Additional information such as personal interests and education are nice to include. Rough clues as to age and location might be helpful to other users but are optional. Listing your company name, State or Province, and Country, along with a link to your company website and a description of your service area and fields of expertise is very encouraged. Minors are asked not to include any personal information about themselves, including information about where they live, but they should still give some nonspecific information about their interests and education (no school names, please).

User Page Content

User pages can include, but are not limited to only the following sorts of information:

  • Biographical information (your education, interests, etc.).
  • Pictures of yourself or your business.
  • Articles you have started or are watching.
  • Other helpful notes directly of personal use to you in your work on Locksmith Wiki Knowledge Base.

Users may not edit each others' user pages unless there is an explicit message to that effect on a person's page. Administrators will have the authority to edit user pages to make them in conformity with the above rules; they will, however, first make a request that the author him- or herself do it.

Signatures

Note that we do not permit pseudonyms in "signatures" on the wiki; if you want to use a "signature" other than your full name, make sure it is part of your real name.
